There's an old episode of Sex and the City where Kerry has a realization about why Mr. Big ended up marrying a simple, straight haired girl instead of her. It's based on a concept from the movie The Way we Were where Barbara Streisand plays Katie- a loud, opinionated, complex curly haired woman whom Robert Redford's Hubbell falls in love with but ultimately leaves her to marry a "safer" woman. I am clearly a “Katie girl” and I wanted to vent my frustration about this being the demise of past relationships in a way that expressed my extreme anger and disappointment about it. Deto-22 sent me this slow and haunting instrumental and it fit the feel of the song perfectly. The real cherry on top was Willie Green's string arrangement. I wasn't sure how this song would be received but when I took it on the road with me last fall but it was an instant fan favorite. The raw emotion I always display when I sing this song never fails to resonate with my audience. I guess there are a lot of Katie girls out there!
