about

Oakland bred, Brooklyn-based, alt soul/pop artist, Corina Corina, drops her new single, “BAR$,” the opening track of her third full-length album, Hangover Music. Due out later this year, the album is a conceptual project written about all the aspects of her lifelong relationship with alcohol, in conjunction with themes of empowerment, loneliness, regret and love. A seasoned vet in the nightlife industry, Corina Corina has had a love/hate relationship with her “day job” for years. Bartending has been a large part of her daily life for so long that it inevitably found its way into her creative life and has become a theme in her songwriting as well.

“BAR$” adopts a more empowered viewpoint from previous releases, as the protagonist is exhausted and jaded but not at all a victim; she knows exactly what she’s doing, she’s a hustler and knows how to play the game. All the blood, sweat and tears she has endured from decades behind the bar have enabled her to invest in her music career, in fact, every single dollar she put into the creation of Hangover Music came from bar money.

lyrics

sometimes I feel sad about

how much I am missing out

but my commission goes up

when you buy another round

and I can’t go out on dates

I’m off work way too late

but if you’re free on a Tuesday

maybe then I can hang

I keep on collecting bucks

that’s how I pay for my roughs

show me your a baller

and I’ll pour a little taller

I keep on collecting bucks

that’s how I pay for my roughs

show me your a baller

and I’ll pour a little taller

you go have a good time

I’ll trade you for mine

don’t worry I’m fine I’m fine

watching all you all wine and dine

you go have a good time

I’ll trade you for mine

don’t worry I’m fine I’m fine

don’t worry I’m fine I’m fine

yeah I’m taking all your dough

so that I can throw my shows

pushing Johnny blue, no red

I’m just trying to get ahead

I’ll have to skip my new years eve

just another work night for me

I’m looking for that extra pay

clocked in on valentine's day

hell yeah life is hard

spending all my time in bars

I still have faith

that it’s not too late

this is meant to be

so let’s be a team

I'll keep pouring whisky

if you give me all of your green

hell yeah life is hard

spending all my time in bars

I still have faith

that it’s not too late

this is meant to be

so let’s be a team

I'll keep pouring whisky

if you give me all of your green

you go have a good time

I’ll trade you for mine

don’t worry I’m fine I’m fine

watching all you all wine and dine

you go have a good time

I’ll trade you for mine

don’t worry I’m fine
