The concept of this song stemmed from the magical place we all dream about when we're spreading ourselves too thin. This is my everyday existence as an indie artist in NYC. I used to have an ongoing joke with a fellow artist about being beach bums in our next life and thus "The Free Way" was born! Producer Steel Tipped Dove and I have done a handful of songs together and he's one of the first people I reach out to when I have a new project. I must have listened through 100 of his beats over the course of the past year and this one immediately stood out. The tropical vibe transformed me to that fantasy place I had written about and I suddenly had the urge to rap! I always joke about being a rapper trapped In a singer's body and Willie usually strongly prefers that I never rap but for some reason he was okay with it this time. I wanted a big church-like group for the last chorus breakdown so I had rapper PremRock, Willie Green, guitar player Jesse O'Neill and percussionist Meredith Butterworth contribute their voices.
